Have you told your clients lately how important they are to you and what you can do for them? If you haven’t, it’s time you told them.
Keep in mind that preparing a technically accurate tax return for the client is not enough. When surveyed, clients say they want an accountant who will keep them abreast of the latest tax changes and also analyze and interpret these changes and advise them on what to do. They want their accountant to originate money-making and money-saving ideas.
Part of advising your clients is suggesting ways for them to use the information you give them and then offering your services as they are needed.
Let your clients know you care about them by sending them newsletters and e-mail updates. Be sure your newsletters and other mailings are brief and in plain English. When appropriate, invite them to lunch or to your office. Visit your clients (at no charge) at their place of business. They will appreciate it since their attorney never shows up there and the banker only visits if a loan is in arrears.
You will have some clients who say, “I don’t want to know all this stuff; that’s why I pay you.” Keep at them. The first time some red flag you’ve planted in their minds saves them tax dollars, you will be appreciated.
So, if you haven’t told your clients lately how much you care about them, do it now. Let them know your firm provides more than just a tax return; it provides the personal attention every client craves.
